I have been in the industry for more than 15 years... Countless "David"s have appeared and pretty fast disappeared. On the other hand, "Goliath", i.e. AI, is here to stay... and prevail. The biblical tale of David and Goliath has little or nothing to do with the struggle between human translators and translation machines. David was witty and resourceful, while Goliath relied solely upon his physical size and might. AI is not Goliath, and it's going nowhere. The thought that humans will ever catch up with (now) Generative AI is naive at best and ill-intended at worst. The article feels like a promo to further translators' frustrating submissiveness while confronting rapidly falling rates, ever more scarce work, and exploiting agencies and corporate giants.
